The 'UP Digital Media Policy 2024' was introduced by the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh with the aim of providing support to influencers who have a substantial following on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

With the purpose of informing the public through digital media platforms and other comparable social media platforms about the various welfare, developmental, and positive schemes and accomplishments in the state as well as the benefits resulting from them, the Uttar Pradesh government has drafted the Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024.

What All We Know About The New Policy - 

1. Depending on how many subscribers or followers they have, the government has divided influencers into four groups. The monthly maximum payment restrictions of ₹5.00 lakh, ₹4.00 lakh, ₹3.00 lakh, and ₹2.00 lakh have been established for account holders, operators, and influencers on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram. The monthly maximum payment limits for videos, shorts, and podcasts on YouTube are ₹8.00 lakh, ₹7.00 lakh, ₹6.00 lakh, and ₹4.00 lakh respectively.

2. Also, if offensive material is posted on YouTube, Facebook, X (previously Twitter), Instagram, or any other platform, the offending agency or company will be sued in compliance with the law.

3. The act of publishing anything that is derogatory to a country's identity is a grave offence that entails harsh penalties, which can extend up to a life sentence.
