Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium is all set to get a major overhaul in three phases at a cost of Rs. 250 crores. The overhauling includes a better drainage system, VVIP facilities and plans to make it at par with Lucknow’s Ekana International Stadium.

The development work was recently presented by Divisional Commissioner K. Vijayendra Pandian in front of Chief Minister’s Additional Chief Secretary SP Goyal to improve the facilities in the stadium which has been struggling for quite some time now.

The Green Park Stadium has hosted 14 ODIs, 24 tests, one T20 and four IPL matches till date. The final outline for the test center has already been presented by the UP Cricket Association with emphasis on demolishing the C and D balcony of the stadium which is in shambles now. Plans are to construct a new three-storey VVIP gallery among increasing the total spectator capacity from 27400 to 50000. Plans regarding a proper drainage system and LED floor lights in the entire stadium have also been proposed.

The final design of the overhauled project has been prepared by The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association with the help of architects and consultants who have helped design stadiums across the country. BCCI’s technical team is also invested in the project and is giving key pointers for smooth renovation.
