Kanpur Metro Expansion Set to Open 7 New Stations from June 9, 2026!

New line promises quicker, greener travel between South Kanpur and the city centre, boosting access to homes, markets, schools and business districts

Kanpur is all set for a major boost in urban connectivity as the Kanpur Metro prepares to launch its next phase of operations on June 9, 2026. The expansion will add 7 new metro stations to the existing corridor, significantly improving daily commuting for thousands of residents across South Kanpur.

Until now, metro services have been operational between IIT Kanpur and Kanpur Central, covering 14 stations. With the upcoming extension, the network will grow to 21 operational stations, making metro travel more accessible, efficient, and convenient for commuters.

7 New Kanpur Metro Stations Opening on June 9:

The newly added stations include:

  • Jhakarkati

  • Transport Nagar

  • Bara Devi

  • Kidwai Nagar

  • Vasant Vihar

  • Baudh Nagar

  • Naubasta

The extension will connect some of Kanpur's busiest residential and commercial neighborhoods, offering a faster alternative to road travel.

The expansion of the Kanpur Metro is being viewed as more than just an infrastructure upgrade. It represents a significant step toward creating a more sustainable and efficient urban transport system.

The addition of seven new stations will bring metro connectivity closer to thousands of households, educational institutions, markets, and business hubs. Daily commuters traveling between South Kanpur and the city center will benefit from a quicker, more reliable mode of transport.
