Kanpur Metro Nears Completion: Tunnel Work Set to Finish by April 2026!

Kanpur Metro's Tunnel Work Enters Final Phase, Completion Expected by April 2026

Kriti Sawhney

Kanpur is on the brink of a major urban mobility transformation as the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) pushes its ambitious metro project towards a key milestone. Civil construction on both metro corridors is progressing rapidly, with tunnel work in the underground section now in its final phase.

The Kanpur Metro project comprises two crucial routes designed to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the city:

- Corridor-1 (IIT Kanpur to Naubasta)

- Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8)

Construction on both corridors is nearing completion, bringing the city closer to a faster, more efficient public transport system.

‘Parvati’ TBM Marks Final Phase of Tunnel Construction

A major highlight of this milestone is the work of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) ‘Parvati’, which is currently executing the final stretch of underground tunneling between Rawatpur and Double Pulia in Corridor-2.

Once this phase is completed—expected by April 2026—the underground metro tunnel construction in Kanpur will be fully complete. This marks a significant achievement in the city’s infrastructure development journey.

With UPMRC accelerating work and meeting deadlines, Kanpur is set to join the league of cities with world-class metro connectivity. The nearing completion of tunnel construction signals that the project is entering its final stages, bringing residents one step closer to seamless urban commuting.
