Kanpur is on the brink of a major infrastructure upgrade. With the completion of the much-awaited Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway and plans for a new 112-kilometre Greenfield Highway connecting Kanpur to Kabrai, the city is poised to become one of Uttar Pradesh's biggest beneficiaries of the state's rapidly expanding road network.
These projects are expected to improve travel, boost business opportunities, attract investments, and strengthen Kanpur's position as a key industrial and commercial hub in Uttar Pradesh.
One of the most anticipated infrastructure projects in the state, the 63-kilometre Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, has been completed at an estimated cost of ₹4,700 crore.
The expressway features a 42-kilometre greenfield stretch and is designed to ease traffic congestion on the heavily used NH-27 corridor. For Kanpur residents, the biggest advantage will be the significant reduction in travel time between the two major cities.
Currently, travelling between Kanpur and Lucknow can take anywhere between 2.5 to 3 hours, especially during peak traffic. Once operational, the journey is expected to take just 30 to 45 minutes, with vehicles allowed to travel at speeds of up to 120 kmph.
The toll charges are expected to be ₹275 for a one-way trip and ₹415 for a round trip completed within 24 hours.
Adding to the excitement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the Kanpur-Kabrai Greenfield Highway, a major road project that will further strengthen connectivity in central Uttar Pradesh.
The proposed 112-kilometre highway will be developed at a cost of more than ₹3,000 crore. Starting from Kanpur, the highway will pass through Fatehpur and Hamirpur districts, creating a faster and more efficient transport corridor for commuters, businesses, and logistics operators.
The project is expected to improve access to key markets, reduce transportation costs, and open new opportunities for industrial and commercial growth across the region.
With the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway nearing inauguration and the Kanpur-Kabrai Greenfield Highway set to begin construction, Kanpur is entering a new phase of infrastructure-led growth.
For residents, businesses, and investors, these projects promise faster travel, better connectivity, and exciting opportunities for development. As Uttar Pradesh continues to expand its expressway and highway network, Kanpur is emerging as one of the biggest winners in the state's infrastructure transformation.
