The city of Kanpur is set to celebrate its first-ever Laddoo Bazaar on December 11, 2025, at the campus of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (often abbreviated CSA). The initiative — led by the district administration — aims to revive and celebrate traditional winter sweets deeply rooted in the region’s culinary heritage.

According to local officials, the Laddu Bazaar is more than just a food market: it is meant as a celebration of seasonal traditions that are both culturally rich and nutritionally beneficial.

The bazaar will focus on showcasing homemade laddoos — prepared by women, self-help groups, and home-food experts — made using traditional ingredients like sesame, jaggery, dry fruits, and millets such as bajra and ragi. These sweets have long been part of wintertime diets in many households, celebrated not only for their taste but for their assumed health and immunity-boosting qualities during colder months.

The move has also been described by local authorities as a way to preserve and promote folk food heritage in Kanpur, encouraging community participation in sustaining culinary traditions that might otherwise fade with modernization.

What to expect:

Visitors to the bazaar can look forward to a variety of laddoos and winter sweets:

- Sesame-jaggery laddoos — a classic winter delicacy.

- Gond (gum) & dry-fruit laddoos — known for their richness and energy content.

- Millet-based laddoos — made from bajra, ragi and other millets, reflecting traditional, wholesome winter fare.

The sweets will be prepared and sold by self-help groups, local women, and home-food specialists — giving an opportunity for small producers and traditional cooks to showcase their work.

Local residents, students, and visitors are encouraged to attend and partake in this celebration of tradition, taste, and togetherness.
