The construction of a four-lane Ganga bridge is underway alongside the deteriorating old Ganga Bridge with an approximate cost of Rs. 235 crores. The project was initiated this Saturday with a survey and site assessment.

This planned bridge spanning 1700 meters will connect Tiwari’s Bagicha Mod to the Gangaghat police post towards Kanpur. The initial assessment was conducted on Saturday by joint teams from Kanpur Setu Nigam and Unnao revenue department. The inspection team was led by assistant engineer Anurag Singh and the proposed site situated 50 meters from the existing Ganga Bridge was examined.

The survey was made regarding assessment of obstacles, land acquisition requirements and impact on existing residential structures. The construction of this bridge will improve connectivity between Kanpur and Unnao. The bridge will incorporate modern engineering standards and safety features to ensure longevity and structural integrity. The design will be made keeping in mind minimal environmental impact.

Not just the construction of the bridge, the project also entails road and junction improvements at both ends of the bridge. Proper lighting, drainage systems and pedestrian facilities are a part of the project. The authorities have ensured that quality control measures will be strictly implemented throughout the construction phase.

Regular meetings will take place over the next few months with all stakeholders to address any changes promptly and get the bridge up and functioning as soon as possible.
