IIT Kanpur Co-Featured in Guinness World Records!
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) has recently been co-featured in the Guinness World Records for its participation in an ambitious local discovery platform initiative involving electric bicycle delivery — a project that highlights sustainable mobility, academic collaboration, and community-centric innovation.
IIT Kanpur earned global recognition when it was co-featured in the Guinness World Records for its technical role in the largest electric bicycle delivery event. The record was achieved through the E-Cycle program, organized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), in collaboration with industry partner EMotorad and the Chittoor district administration.
IIT Kanpur’s contribution came through its Kuppam Net Zero Constituency Project, providing technical expertise, data analytics, optimization algorithms, and implementation frameworks to ensure the successful execution of the record-setting event.
Representing the institution’s commitment to applied research and real-world impact were Prof. Manoj K. Tiwari and Prof. Rajeev Jindal, who led the institute’s liaison with the project team and stakeholders.
Part of IIT Kanpur’s strong involvement stemmed from its alumni network, with key figures like Hari Shankar (Consultant, Kuppam Project) and Vikas Marmat (IAS, Project Director, KADA) playing vital coordination roles.
This Guinness World Record isn’t just a badge of honor — it serves as a local discovery platform success story, demonstrating how academic institutions can drive systemic change in regional development, smart eco-mobility, and low-carbon infrastructure. By integrating electric bicycle technology, data-driven optimization, and community participation, the project sets a precedent for future initiatives that seek to leverage innovation for societal benefit.
