In a major infrastructural leap under Vision 2051, the Kanpur Metro is all set for a massive expansion with the introduction of five new corridors that aim to connect key urban centres with peripheral and rural areas.
Spearheaded by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), this forward-looking plan is expected to transform the public transportation landscape of the city and its surroundings.
The 52-kilometer expansion proposal is part of the state government's Vision-2051 blueprint, and a financial request of Rs 4,250 crore has been filed for approval.
Proposed Metro Corridors:
1. Chakeri Airport to Naramau: Enhancing airport connectivity, this corridor will make commuting seamless for travelers and residents in east and north Kanpur.
2. Outer Ring Road to Mandhana: This route aims to decongest city traffic by linking the outer city zones to developing areas like Mandhana, boosting both residential and industrial access.
3. Intercity Route to Unnao: A major game-changer, this intercity metro link will improve connectivity between Kanpur and Unnao, fostering regional development and daily commuting ease.
4. New Route for South Kanpur: With South Kanpur's rising population and expanding townships, this route will provide a much-needed transit option to underserved areas.
5. Raipurwa to Bhauti Kheda: This corridor is designed to support fast-growing localities in west Kanpur, giving better access to educational institutions, markets, and residential zones.
This ambitious plan aligns with the long-term vision of making Kanpur a smart, connected, and sustainable metropolis by 2051. With UPMRC's proven track record, the expansion is poised to bring transformational change to the region’s infrastructure.
