Kanpur is set to play a pivotal role in India’s industrial growth, with a renewed focus on strengthening Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Member of Parliament Ramesh Awasthi stated that MSMEs have emerged as the second-strongest engine of India’s economy, and Kanpur will be developed as a model city for industrial growth.

Speaking at a press conference held at Hotel Landmark, Kanpur, MP Awasthi highlighted that during the financial year 2025–26, the MSME sector contributes approximately 30% to India’s total GDP, reflecting its growing importance in the nation’s economic progress.

MSMEs: Backbone of Employment After Agriculture

After agriculture, MSMEs are the largest employment generators in the country, currently providing direct and indirect employment to nearly 280 million people. MP Awasthi emphasized that the sector is not only creating jobs but also strengthening the vision of a self-reliant India.

Kanpur’s Industrial Legacy and Future Plans

Kanpur has long been a historic hub for MSMEs, with strong roots in textiles, leather, engineering, plastics, handloom, and small-scale manufacturing. Building on this legacy, a special seminar on capital markets and industrial growth is being organized for the region.

NSE MD & CEO Mr. Ashish Kumar Chauhan will also be present at the event.
