A major improvement in railway infrastructure and crew welfare was made on May 23, 2025, when the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) opened a brand-new crew running room at New Kanpur Station.
The opening of this state-of-the-art crew running room demonstrates DFCCIL's dedication to improving freight train services' operational effectiveness and level of service. The facility seeks to enhance railway crew members' performance and well-being by giving them a cosy and well-equipped space. This construction is in line with the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme's overarching objectives, which centre on updating and modernising railway stations throughout India to satisfy the changing demands of both employees and passengers.
Modern amenities are installed in the new G+4 building, which occupies more than 7,200 square meters, to improve railway employees' health and well-being as well as operational readiness. Situated at New Kanpur Junction, a key crew transfer point that gets traffic from Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay, GMC, Prayagraj, Cheoki, Tundla, Jhansi, and Khurja, the facility has a capacity of 150 beds, which can be expanded to 300 in the future. The running room includes a modular kitchen, dining area, simulator room for training, spacious crew lobbies, recreation areas, a conference hall, and a yoga room.
An important step towards improving the operating capacities and welfare of railway workers is the construction of the crew running room at New Kanpur Station, which will help to improve India's railway services as a whole.
