Be it sports, the entertainment industry, business world or any other arena, Kanpurites have always made the city proud. Adding a feather to this list is a youth from the city, Shekhar Bijlani who has brought glory to Kanpur by hoisting the tricolor on the Mount Mera Peak in Nepal.

Shekhar Bijlani (23) is a resident of Ratanlal Nagar area of the city and a passionate mountaineer. He achieved this feat on 20th November by climbing a difficult 18-day climb and hoisted the tricolor on the 21,800 feet peak of Mount Mera in Nepal. As soon as Shekhar returned home, he received many best wishes and praises from people all around.

He is the first boy from Uttar Pradesh to have claimed this feat at the young age of 23. Out of the 40 people in the group for the climb, Shekhar was the only Indian amongst Europeans. Many could not achieve the feat because of lack of oxygen and extreme chilly weather conditions. But the young lad was successful in climbing the peak.

Shekhar has been mountaineering since his teenage years. In April 2022, he climbed to a height of 18,000 feet of Everest Base Camp at the age of 21. In May 2023, he successfully reached 17 feet height at Everest and Kanchenjunga Base Camp.

We wish Shekhar all the best for his future endeavors!
