The municipal corporation and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (ESSL) have been in a scuffle since a while now due to which hundreds of street lights in Kanpur have been switched off. To light up these streets immersed in darkness, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), under the Solar City Project is all set to install solar high masts and street lights in the city.

Under the Solar City Project, 1600 solar street lights and 270 high masts will be installed in the first round. Not just that, the department of MSME has previously also installed dozens of street light in multiple areas of the city.

As per the Uttar Pradesh NEDA officials, Kanpur has been included in the Solar City Project and funds worth Rs. 8 crores have been allotted to the city. Out of the two types of solar street lights being installed, one is the single 12 watt solar light that will be fitted on an aluminium pole. The demand for installing solar lights at the places indicated by the public representatives will be sent to the government.

The second type is the beautiful towers of 270 solar high mast street lights that are currently being installed in public places, tourist spots, intersections and more. In this type of lights, one solar light will be installed in each direction of a curved pole making it four solar lights on one pole.

As of now beautiful high mast solar towers have already been installed outside Kargil Park in Motijheel. Similarly, the 12 watt solar street light has been fitted on the road leading from Commissioner Square to Gwaltoli.

UP NEDA Project Officer Rakesh Pandey also confirmed that bases for installing 700 solar light towers and poles have need made in different areas of the city.
