Kanpur is witnessing one of its heaviest spells of rainfall this season, prompting the district administration to declare a holiday for all schools (Classes 1 to 12) on Tuesday, 5th August 2025.
The decision, taken in consultation with the India Meteorological Department (IMD), comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and flood‑like situations across the city.
The IMD has issued orange and red alerts for several parts of Uttar Pradesh, including Kanpur, predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall for the next 24–48 hours. Over the past two days, the city has been drenched with continuous showers, turning major streets into gushing streams.
The city is battling heavy rain and waterlogging, and safety has taken priority. Parents are encouraged to keep children indoors, avoid sending them out unnecessarily, and stay updated through official district bulletins.
According to the IMD, Kanpur will likely continue receiving heavy to very heavy rainfall until 6th August, with a gradual decline expected after mid‑week.
