The Government of NCT Delhi, headed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is taking strong action to reduce air pollution under the inspiring direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Stakeholders from the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, IIT Kanpur, Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Union Home, Defence, and Environment Ministries, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Airport Authority of India participated in the meeting to discuss the potential of artificial rain.

During the discussion, the IIT Kanpur team informed everyone that cloud seeding is a scientific method that increases precipitation by releasing particular chemicals into clouds. These materials serve as nuclei for cloud condensation, promoting the formation and growth of water droplets until they are sufficiently heavy to fall as rain. These materials are often released into the atmosphere using aircraft or ground-based generators.

IIT Kanpur has already shown that cloud seeding works, as evidenced by six of seven studies that successfully induced rainfall in the presence of favourable atmospheric conditions. Based on these prior experiences, the minister carefully considered the project's efficacy and viability before urging the relevant ministries to cooperate in order to obtain the required permits for its execution in Delhi.

Stay tuned for more such updates!
