Table tennis fans in Kanpur had a thrilling weekend as the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships concluded at The Sports Hub (TSH), Kanpur, with some of India’s promising young players battling it out for national ranking titles.
West Bengal’s Syndrela Das emerged as the star of the championship, winning both the Women’s Singles and Under-19 Girls’ Singles titles. The young Commonwealth champion defeated Maharashtra’s Divyanshi Bhowmick 4-2 in the women’s final in a closely fought six-game contest.
Earlier, Syndrela had also secured the U-19 Girls’ Singles title after beating Tamil Nadu’s Ananya Muralidharan 4-1. Her double victory made her one of the biggest highlights of the tournament at TSH Kanpur.
The men’s final delivered another major highlight for Kanpur’s table tennis audience. Delhi’s Payas Jain staged a strong comeback to defeat PSPB’s Manav Thakkar 4-1 and claim the Men’s Singles crown.
The championship also saw several surprises, with top seeds Manush Shah and Yashaswini Ghorpade exiting in the semifinals. The results highlighted the growing depth of young talent in Indian table tennis.
For sports lovers in Kanpur, the tournament offered a chance to watch some of the country’s leading table tennis players compete at The Sports Hub, further strengthening the city’s position as a venue for major sporting events.
