As Prayagraj prepares for the Maha Kumbh Mela,The Ministry of Railways has released a detailed plan that includes running 992 special trains from January 12 to February 28, 2025, which is anticipated to draw pilgrims from all over the country. The primary goal is to control the enormous number of pilgrims who will be travelling there by train.
The purpose of these special trains is to serve the millions of people that are anticipated to attend the event. This is on top of the 140 trains and 6,580 regular services that travel through the Prayagraj region. In addition to adding more trains, the railways have allowed 140 passing-through trains to halt everyday during the Kumbh Mela to allow passengers from Prayagraj districts to board.
Additionally, a new circular train line connecting Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Varanasi is being introduced by the Ministry of Railways. This new route aims to make travelling between the major pilgrimage cities easier. In order to effectively handle the additional passenger load, the Ministry also intends to deploy 174 longer rakes.
In order to evaluate the preparations for the Kumbh Mela and discuss the plans for special trains, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hosted a high-level meeting that was also attended by Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu and V Somanna. The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is going to be held at Prayagraj from January 13th, 2025 to February 26th, 2025.
