The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, which is now under construction, is predicted to cut down on travel time from 90 minutes to 40 to 45 minutes. Travellers and commercial vehicles will find it easier to commute between the two cities, thanks to the road. By April 2025, the 63 km, 6-lane highway should be completed. As of June 2024, 50% of the construction has already been completed.

The expressway links Shaheed Path in Lucknow with Azad Chauraha, which is near the Ganga bridge in Kanpur. This project is a component of the larger development programme of the UP government, which also includes the Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, and Ganga expressways. The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has sanctioned an INR 1,935 crore budget for the construction of this expressway.

The highway project is of great strategic importance since it intends to improve connection between two important Uttar Pradesh cities. The highway will also include several crossroads, which will make up to forty-one villages along the Lucknow-Kanpur route easier to reach.
