More than 1.25 lakh devotees from Kanpur and nearby districts are expected to go to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh 2025 in the months of January and February daily via Kanpur Central. The railways department is working constantly to make this journey smooth for all devotees and in this regard, special arrangements are being made at Govindpuri Station in Kanpur.
After passenger facilities on every platform of the Central Station, the Govindpuri Railway Station is being prepared as an alternative. From washing the apron of trains to facility of filling water to making a shelter or holding area, work is in full swing.
There has been discussion on finding a place for more than 50,000 people to stay at one place. Till the duration of Mahakumbh 2025, along with the current 28 trains, there has been a consensus on stopping 50 trains including the Maha Kumbh Special at the Govindpuri Station.
Along with making arrangements for a large number of people to stay at one place, to increase ease in travelling, a shelter will be built for pilgrims to wait before their trains arrive. This will also reduce crowd at the platforms.
Not just this, new racks are getting ready at Govindpuri Station so that 8-12 coaches can be dispatched as soon as the number of devotees increases. This will reduce the rush for trains at the Central Station.
Along with the Govindpuri Station, full arrangements for passengers on the Cantt side of the Central Station are also being taken care of.
