
The New Year has begun and brought with it a ray of hope for endless possibilities in Kanpur. With immense attention being given to the infrastructure in the city, many major developments all happening in various arenas that Kanpurites must look forward to. From progress in Kanpur Metro to new hospitals, bridges and so much more, the city’s landscape is all set to get a major overhaul, benefitting the residents directly.
Here are 6 developments happening in Kanpur that are all set to change the city’s landscape:
1. Kanpur Metro to run underground: The Kanpur Metro running from IIT Kanpur to Motijheel will now go underground to Kanpur Central Station. Due to this, on-boarders will be able to cover the distance of 16 km directly from IIT to Kanpur Central in minutes.
2. 4-star hotel in Vikas Nagar: Vikas Nagar locality is all set to get a swanky 4-star hotel with a shopping mall built in. The hotel is ready to be launched. Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has also opened its office in the premises on the ground floor to provide information about the shopping mall.
3. Superfast trains to run from Govindpuri station: The Govindpuri station in Kanpur is going through a major overhaul. With Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj this year, construction to new building, main building, parking and laying of extra tracks is underway. Superfast trains will start running from the station by April 2025.
4. City’s biggest multi-level parking: Kanpur’s biggest multi-level parking is being constructed in the Collectorate premises with a budget of Rs. 47 crores. 40% of the construction is complete already and the deadline for completion is set in June 2025. After its opening, vehicles from around VIP Road, Collectorate, Sadar Tehsil and Kachheri premises will be able to park in this space, relieving this part of the city from traffic congestion.
5. Kanpur’s first Convention Center: Under the Kanpur Smart City project, the city’s first convention center is being built in Chunniganj area. This will be Kanpur’s largest business, art and cultural center with facilities like a 16,000 sq. ft. exhibition hall, a second 16,000 sq. ft. exhibition hall, a conference room with 300 seating capacity, meeting rooms, guest rooms and much more.
6. Kanpur Central Station to be modernized: At a cost of more than Rs. 700 crores, airport like facilities and services are being developed at Kanpur Central. This project of modernization will gain more speed starting January 2025 and include demolition of old and construction of new buildings at the station, underground parking, waiting area, booking, reservation and parcel house construction.
