Kanpur’s historic Green Park Stadium is on the verge of a dramatic overhaul. According to recent reports and announcements, a detailed project report (DPR) is ready and is expected to be submitted for government approval later this week. The proposed redevelopment aims to reimagine the venue as a world-class cricketing and hospitality complex, with a slew of structural, spectator, and commercial upgrades.

Key Highlights of the Redevelopment Plan:

1. Seating capacity jump: From the current 27,400 spectators, the stadium is slated to expand to over 51,000.

2. Premium facility on NCC grounds: A seven-star hotel is proposed to be constructed on the NCC (National Cadet Corps) grounds adjacent to or within the stadium precinct.

3. Massive investment: The redevelopment is estimated to cost ₹700 crore (approx).

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), under directions from the state government, has been working on the DPR for months. The project is being seen as a strategic move to restore Green Park’s place among India’s premier cricket venues.

The redevelopment of Green Park is more than just a sports project — it’s a transformational urban initiative for Kanpur. Once complete, it is expected to boost tourism, Create hundreds of jobs during & after construction, Enhance city infrastructure, parking, and road networks around the area.
