Residents of Kanpur may soon have another reason to celebrate as the much-awaited extension of the Kanpur Metro corridor from Central Station to Naubasta moves into its final phase. A four-member team from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to arrive on June 11 to conduct a detailed safety inspection of metro stations and tracks along the newly completed section.

The inspection marks a crucial step before the commencement of commercial metro services for the general public on the Central Station–Naubasta stretch. Once the safety review is completed and clearance is granted, passengers will be able to travel seamlessly across the entire Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro project.

CMRS Team to Inspect Stations and Tracks

According to metro officials, the additional CMRS team will thoroughly examine the infrastructure, signaling systems, stations, and tracks between Central Station and Naubasta. Following this preliminary review, Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety Neelabra Sen Gupta is expected to personally inspect the corridor before granting final approval.

The safety certification is mandatory before any metro route can be opened for passenger operations, ensuring that all technical and operational standards are met.

Metro authorities have expressed confidence that passenger services on the Central Station–Naubasta section will begin by July 10 at the latest. Once operations commence, the entire 23.50-kilometre Corridor-1 connecting IIT Kanpur and Naubasta will become fully operational.

The completion of Corridor-1 is expected to significantly improve urban mobility in Kanpur by providing faster, safer, and more reliable public transport. It will also enhance connectivity between key residential, educational, commercial, and transit hubs across the city.

The launch of the Central Station–Naubasta section will complete the first metro corridor in Kanpur, reducing travel time for thousands of daily commuters. The metro is expected to ease traffic congestion, lower pollution levels, and offer a modern transportation alternative for residents.

With the final safety inspections now underway, Kanpur is on the verge of achieving a major milestone in its urban transport journey.
