Kanpur Riverfront Project: All Updates And Latest Deets On It!

Kriti Sawhney

With the completion of an initial eight-kilometer survey, the long-delayed Ganga Riverfront project in Kanpur has been given new life.

The city would build the Ganga Path and waterfront from Atal Ghat to Shuklaganj Bridge in accordance with Patna's plan. The project will be guided by the officials of the Bihar Road Development Corporation, who successfully built the Ganga Path in Patna.

An extra road paralleling the VIP road along the Ganga is part of a proposed riverside redevelopment. Coordinator Neeraj Srivastava visited the Patna Ganga Path with a number of department representatives to look at the current Patna model.

A riverfront development proposal was first put up in 2013, but it was unsuccessful for more than ten years. However, at an event held at GIC Ground on August 29, 2024, CM Yogi Adityanath publicly announced the development of the Ganga Riverfront, reviving optimism. The Commissioner will receive the proposal from the representatives of the several departments for review by the government.

Neeraj Srivastava, Coordinator, High-Level Joint Development Committee, said, "Officials from the Irrigation, Public Work Department, and Bridge Corporation will soon submit a proposal for Kanpur to the Commissioner, which will be sent to the govt. for necessary action.”
