The government of Uttar Pradesh plans to make Kanpur a significant centre for the production of electric vehicles (EVs).
In a transformative move under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision 2030, a sprawling 500-acre EV-dedicated industrial park is set to come up in the Bhimsen area. This landmark initiative, being developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), is expected to bring in an investment of ₹700 crore and usher in a new era of clean, green, and sustainable industrial growth in the region.
It will house production units for:
- EV motors and chassis
- Lithium-ion batteries and cell assembly
- Battery chargers and controllers
- Automotive electronics and precision parts
The park will also include an advanced Research & Development (R&D) center aimed at fostering innovation, and an integrated components cluster to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), encouraging entrepreneurship and local job creation.
Once known for its leather industry, Kanpur is steadily diversifying its industrial identity. With upcoming mega-projects like the Defence Corridor and now the EV Park in Bhimsen, the city is undergoing a strategic transformation. This EV-dedicated industrial zone symbolizes Kanpur’s forward-looking approach and readiness to become a modern manufacturing powerhouse.
