Kanpur residents could soon have a much faster way to travel to Delhi, with the proposed Northern Bullet Train Corridor receiving approval from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the development, highlighting how the ambitious high-speed rail project could transform connectivity across northern and eastern India.
Under the proposed corridor, the Delhi-Kanpur journey is expected to take just 1 hour and 45 minutes, significantly reducing travel time for daily commuters, business travellers and tourists.
The high-speed rail network is planned to connect Delhi with several major cities, including Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Patna, Siliguri and Guwahati. This will place Kanpur on an important high-speed rail route connecting Uttar Pradesh with other parts of the country.
The Railway Minister also shared the projected travel times for other important routes, with Delhi-Agra expected to take 59 minutes and Delhi-Lucknow around 2 hours and 12 minutes.
Vaishnaw further stated that the project would follow the Make in India vision, with major construction and infrastructure components being developed using domestic manufacturing capabilities. The initiative is also expected to generate employment opportunities for young people and support small-scale industries.
While the proposed corridor promises a major upgrade in connectivity, Kanpur residents will be watching closely for further details on its construction timeline and station infrastructure.
For now, the prospect of reaching Delhi from Kanpur in under two hours is certainly an exciting development for the city.
