In a significant move to bolster defence research and technology development, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Army’s Western Command. The collaboration marks a strategic partnership aimed at leveraging academic excellence and cutting-edge research capabilities to address key operational and technological challenges faced by the Indian Army.

The MoU was signed by representatives from both institutions in a formal ceremony that underlined the shared vision of innovation and self-reliance in defence. Through this partnership, IIT Kanpur will provide advanced technical support, research insights, and innovative solutions in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cyber security, and unmanned systems.

Lt. Gen. Nav K. Khanduri, GOC-in-C of the Western Command, and Professor S. Ganesh, Director of IIT Kanpur, expressed their enthusiasm about the collaboration. They emphasized the need for academic institutions and the armed forces to work closely in building indigenous defence technologies that can strengthen India’s preparedness in modern warfare.

This MoU also aims to promote knowledge exchange, joint research projects, and training programs for army personnel. IIT Kanpur’s robust infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise are expected to play a key role in creating deployable, field-ready solutions tailored for real-world military applications.

With this partnership, IIT Kanpur continues to cement its role as a leading force in nation-building and innovation, while the Western Command gains access to a powerful knowledge hub that can transform ideas into impactful defence technologies.
