It had been three years since the traffic at old Ganga Bridge connecting Kanpur city to Shuklaganj had been stopped. This two-storey bridge that was built in the year 1875 during the British era had been declared rundown by the Public Works Department (PWD).

But now, Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has taken initiatives to preserve the heritage property. With a budget of Rs. 20 lakhs, the old bridge is being revamped into a beautiful picnic spot for the residents of the city. This is also a good way to get the newer generations in touch with the culturally important sites of the town.

As of now, the municipal corporation has renovated the main gate of the old Ganga Bridge. The repair work has also been completed and painting work is underway. The part from the bridge to the intersection is being converted into a magnificent picnic spot with 30 stalls for delicious food and drinks.

The revamped park will be accessible to the general public after NOC from Cantt Board and PWD so that the new generation can get to know more about the grand bridge that was built on the river Ganga in Kanpur 149 years ago.
