The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the appointment of Raghubir Lal, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the new Police Commissioner of Kanpur. 

Raghubir Lal, a 1997-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, is set to take over the reins following the central deputation of the current commissioner, Akhil Kumar. His extensive experience and distinguished service record make him a strong candidate to lead the city’s law enforcement.

Raghubir Lal was born on February 12, 1970, in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Zoology, Botany, and Chemistry, showcasing an early inclination towards structured and analytical thinking. Joining the IPS in 1997, Lal has built a remarkable career spanning over two decades in various capacities across Uttar Pradesh.

Over the years, Raghubir Lal has held several key positions within the Uttar Pradesh Police, demonstrating leadership, strategic vision, and operational excellence. His career progression includes:

- Senior Scale (2001)

- Selection Grade (2010)

- Additional Director General (ADG) rank (2022), where he is currently serving as the ADG of Security in the state.

With Raghubir Lal at the helm, the city anticipates a strategic and citizen-focused approach to law enforcement, leveraging his experience in handling large-scale security operations and investigative mechanisms.
