As the legendary Green Park Stadium is ready to host an ODI after an eight-year break, cricket excitement is expected to return to Kanpur. The stadium, which has a long history in cricket, has been chosen to host the Australia 'A' men's tour of India in September and October of 2025. The stadium will host three ODIs on September 30, October 3, and October 5 .
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the decision, which is major for the city's cricket fans, who haven't seen an ODI at Green Park since October 29, 2017. The India vs. New Zealand match was viewed as maybe the final major international match at the location because of infrastructure issues and competition from the recently constructed Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
BCCI Vice President and UPCA official Rajeev Shukla expressed confidence in Green Park’s readiness to host international-level matches again. “Green Park is not just a stadium, it is an emotion for many. The decision to bring ODIs back here shows our trust in the city’s cricketing culture and UPCA’s preparations,” Shukla said during a media interaction.
Kanpur cricket fans are excited for international cricket to return to Green Park, a stadium with a long history and space for about 32,000 spectators. It is anticipated that the three One-Day International matches versus Australia 'A' will attract sizable crowds and highlight the stadium's longstanding significance in Indian cricket.
