Important news for passengers travelling through Kanpur Central Railway Station. Train operations at one of North India’s busiest railway stations will remain suspended for 24 hours on June 21 due to large-scale interlocking work and signalling upgrades.
During this period, several trains will operate from Govindpuri Railway Station and Chandari Railway Station instead of Kanpur Central. Railway authorities will also implement diversions on multiple routes to manage train movement smoothly during the shutdown.
Why Kanpur Central Is Being Closed?
The temporary closure is part of a major railway modernization project aimed at improving train operations and eliminating frequent signal-related issues. Currently, the station operates on an electrical interlocking system, but after the upgrade, the entire network will become fully computer-based.
According to railway officials, this modernization will help reduce:
Signal failures
Electrical malfunctions
Operational delays
Technical disruptions during train movement
The upgraded system is expected to make train handling faster, safer and more efficient at the station.
Travellers are advised to check their train status and departure station before leaving for the railway station. Passengers should carefully review updated train schedules issued by Indian Railways to avoid confusion on the day of travel.
The railway administration says the short-term inconvenience will lead to smoother and more reliable train operations in the future.
