In order to start the long-delayed New Kanpur City project in 2025, the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is stepping up its efforts. Based on the land it has purchased, the authority is now creating the site plan, taking topography into account and scheduling for essential infrastructure like roads, sewage systems, and drinking water pipes.
Since its inception in 1996, the project has seen multiple setbacks. Parts of the villages of Sambalpur, Gangapur, Chakbada, Singhpur Kachar, Hindupur, and Bairi Akbarpur will be included in the 53.31-hectare first phase. KDA is negotiating for the remaining area after having previously purchased about 45 hectares. The overall land area would reach 50 hectares after village farmers agreed to contribute an extra 5 hectares.
The district administration is awaiting state government approval to purchase the remaining 39.69 hectares, with land acquisition scheduled to start next month. The KDA has set aside Rs 183.5 crore for the infrastructural project.
KDA has started working to remove unauthorised encroachments on purchased land in parallel. About 70 bighas of KDA land were recovered in Sanigawan village as a result of recent efforts; more encroachments were found in Bara Sirohi, Maswanpur, Panki Gangaganj, and Daheli Sujanpur. It is estimated that the restored land is worth Rs 8 billion. Additionally, KDA is verifying its residential projects, finding approximately 1,200 plots that are now under development.
Through these initiatives, the KDA hopes to guarantee the New Kanpur City project's successful completion, which is anticipated to greatly enhance the area's infrastructure and urban growth.
