The 61st Executive Committee (EC) meeting of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), presided over by Director-General Shri Rajeev Kumar Mital, has approved a number of ambitious projects centred on river conservation, pollution control, and community engagement, marking a significant step towards restoring the ecological health of the Ganga and its tributaries. 

These decisions, which are in line with the larger objectives of environmental preservation and sustainable development, constitute a significant push under the Government of India's flagship "Namami Gange" program.

By generating 3,446 MLD of sewage treatment capacity—more than 30 times the pre-2014 capacity—the Namami Gange Program has achieved notable progress in reducing pollution. In just 7-8 years, NMCG has finished 127 projects and 152 sewage treatment plants, making significant strides towards bringing the Ganga back to its former splendour.

A Rs 138.11 crore project aimed at intercepting and redirecting 14 significant drains will also help Kanpur, a historically industrial city in Uttar Pradesh. With the help of planned pumping stations and manholes, sewage that is currently flowing straight into the river will be diverted to treatment facilities, improving the city's drainage and sanitary infrastructure.

These groundbreaking projects, which have the support of important state and ministry leaders, underline NMCG's dedication to a healthier, cleaner, and more culturally vibrant Ganga, which is a real lifeline for millions of people.
