It is possible to prevent accidents that previously occurred as a result of rail or train issues. For this, IIT Kanpur has created the Rolling Straw Defect Detection and Surveillance System (ARDS), which is based on artificial intelligence. To ensure that all officials are informed in a timely manner, this system will identify all train flaws and promptly provide the railways with all the information.

This system was created by Pradivya Software Private Company, an IIT Kanpur incubated business. According to Rajan Jha, head of marketing, the system's development got underway in 2020. It has now been fully prepared.

This system will now perform the tasks that the railway authorities previously completed by hand. While human error is possible, this technology is error-proof. It now has a camera with AI built into it. It has received comprehensive training. It will thereafter be put in between the tracks.

The station's outer side will have this system installed. It will immediately read all of the train's issues as soon as it reaches the outer side. If there are any issues with the tracks, it will also indicate them. In the event of an issue, the railway officials will be notified right away.

Afterward, that issue will be fixed when the train reaches the station. Following this, the train will depart for the subsequent station. Its first successful trial has been done in Delhi NCR. Railways have also given their approval. Initially, it would be set up in 16 locations in Delhi NCR. The unique feature is that this system will operate around-the-clock. By March, the system installation process will also begin.
